Colonoscopy
From Early Detection and Polyp Removal to Bleeding Control, Providing Accurate Diagnosis, Effective Treatment, and Preventative Care to Reduce Colorectal Cancer Risk.
A colonoscopy is a procedure that allows us to examine the inside of your large bowel (colon) using a thin, flexible tube with a camera on the end. It helps us investigate symptoms such as abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, bleeding, or unexplained weight loss, and can also be used to screen for bowel cancer.
Preparing for the Procedure
To get the best view during your colonoscopy, your bowel needs to be completely clear. This means you’ll need to take a bowel preparation (laxative) the day before the test, and follow a specific diet and fluid plan. We’ll give you clear instructions to guide you through this step-by-step.
During the Procedure
On the day of the colonoscopy, you will be offered sedation or Entonox (gas and air) to help you stay relaxed and comfortable. The procedure usually takes around 30 minutes, and most patients are able to go home the same day.
If we find polyps – small growths in the bowel that can sometimes turn into cancer – we can usually remove them during the same procedure, reducing the need for additional tests or surgery.
