Abdominal pain

From Sharp Stabs to Persistent Aches—Understanding, Diagnosing, and Treating Abdominal Pain for Lasting Relief and Improved Well-being.

Abdominal pain can be caused by a wide range of conditions, and getting to the root of the problem requires a careful and methodical approach. This needs taking a detailed history – understanding the nature, duration, and triggers of the pain, as well as any associated symptoms such as changes in bowel habits, weight loss, or indigestion.

A thorough clinical examination follows, which helps guide further investigations. Depending on the case, I may recommend diagnostic procedures such as endoscopy – either a gastroscopy to examine the oesophagus, stomach and upper small bowel, or a colonoscopy to look at the large bowel – to visualize the internal organs and check for inflammation, ulcers, polyps, or signs of cancer.

In addition, imaging techniques such as ultrasound, CT, or MRI scans are often used to get a clearer picture and help narrow down the diagnosis.
I work closely with a multidisciplinary team – including radiologists, pathologists, and pelvic floor physiotherapist – to ensure that every patient receives a personalized and comprehensive management plan. Whether it’s lifestyle and dietary advice, medical treatment, or surgery, my aim is to provide clear solutions and support every step of the way.
